GHALIB ACADEMY, Registered Society (Registration No. 3888 of (1968 – 69 ) is an educational and cultural institution of National importance. Hakeem Abdul Hameed is founder President of this academy, it was inaugurated on the 22nd February, 1969 by the Late. Dr. Zakir Hussain, President of India. It has been established in memory of MIRZA ASAD ULLAH KHAN GHALIB whose pre eminence in the cherished art of Poetry and Prose is a fact of which we have every reason to be proud
The ACADEMY has a Museum on GHALIB AND HIS AGE, Research Library an Art Gallery Research Section Publication Book Centre (Sales Counter) and Auditorium and Computerized Calligraphy Training Centre in collaboration with the National Council for Promotion of Urdu language (Govt. of India) New Delhi.
The Library of the ACADEMY provide facilities to the Scholars on GHALIB AND HIS AGE and even to the foreign Scholars who benefit from it
Its Museum is replete with exhibits and object recapturing some of the reminiscences and glimpses of the period of GHALIB
The ACADEMY has a community of the Expert to recommend standard Research work to be published in different language .The Publications of GHALIB ACADEMY are considered to be an addition to Scholarship and have won tremendous applause. It has so far published (31) Thirty One our books.
In a short period of 44 years, the ACADEMY has succeeded in achieving recognition from a large number of Noble ,Academicians and Orient lists, not less then 18 of whom are its Honorary Members.
The ACADEMY has an Art Gallery, which has paintings by eminent Artists of the country.
The Auditorium of the ACADEMY is functioning as a forum for education and literary uplift. Distinguished Scholars and renowned personalities visit the ACADEMY and speak on GHALIB AND HIS AGE or any other topic of literature.
The ACADEMY has been visited by thousand of Indian as well Foreign Scholars, Writers, Poets and Academicians , who paid eloquent tributes to its activities and work. Scholars both Indian and foreign have evinced keep interest in the ACADEMY, finding in it wide and rich collection of books which no where else is available.
The ACADEMY is going its best for the development of URDU, one of the languages recognized by the constitution of India on constructive lines with the aims of strengthening National integration and fraternity.
The ACADEMY organizes several Literary and Cultural Programs on famous Urdu Poets like GHALIB and IQBAL etc. It also organizes Seminars, Workshops, Exhibition and Literary meets etc.

It was in the middle of twentieth Century that in order to keep alive the memory of great Indian poet Mirza Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib, Late Hakeem Abdul Hameed formed a society named Ghalib Academy which was joined by Colonel Basheer Husain Zaidi, Dr Yousuf Husain Khan, Qazi Abdul Wadood, Malik Ram, Kanwar Mahender Singh Bedi, Khwaja Ahmad Farooqui, Prithivie Chand, Gopi Nath Aman, Khwaja Ghulam-us- Syeden, Mohammad Mujeeb, Humayun Kabeer, Tarkeshwari Sinha, V.K Krishna Menon and others. This society had its regiested office at Hamdard Manzil Lal Kuan Delhi. The Society President Hakeem Abdul Hameed bought two plots adjacent to Ghalib’s Mazar (Grave) in Basti Hzt Nizamuddin and got Ghalib Academy building constructed there. It was formally declared open by the then President of India Dr. Zakir Hussain on the occasion of the Ghalib Centenary on 22nd  February 1969.

Aims and objectives
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
  1.  To perpetuate the memory of Mirza Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib in India and abroad.
  2.  To conduct research on Ghalib and his age.
  3. To arrange for the education of oriental languages for the study of Ghalib.
  4. To collaborate with Societies, Organization or Institutions carrying on kindred activities.
Functions
FUNCTIONS
I. To establish a library with facilities for research.
II. To establish a Ghalib Museum.
III. To collect and/or acquire and preserve source-material relating to Ghalib and his age.
IV. To collect and/or acquire literature relating to the life and work of Ghalib produced in India and elsewhere, books owned by Ghalib and objects that belonged to him or are related to him in any way.
V. To establish schools and classes for education of oriental languages for the study of Ghalib.
VI. To publish books, monographs, research papers, pamphlets etc., edit manuscripts and bring out periodicals relating to Ghalib and his age.
VII. To disseminate knowledge about Ghalib and his age and perpetuate his memory by organizing and facilitating study courses, conferences, symposiums, seminars, lectures, talks, research, mushairas, exhibitions, stage shows, musical soirees and documentary films.
VIII. To do all such other lawful acts, deeds or things as the Society may consider incidental and conducive to the attainment of any of the objects of the Society.
